Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an award winning parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten. The program is designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent education accessible to all families. The Parents as Teachers Born to Learn™ model offers families personal visits by certified parent educators; group meetings; developmental, health, hearing and vision screening; and linkage with community resources. It is a universal access model that is adaptable to the needs of diverse families, cultures and special populations.
Neuroscience-Infused Curriculum Features:
» Detailed personal visit plans designed in weekly, bi-weekly and monthly formats that include research- based information on how to encourage language, intellectual growth, physical, and social-emotional skills.
» Parent handouts that integrate neuroscience with child development information written on two reading levels.
» Comprehensive prenatal information to assist expectant parents with ensuring optimum fetal growth and development.
» Resource materials for parent educators that include information on: neuroscience; developmental, hearing, vision, and health screenings; and parent-child activities to enhance interaction and increase learning.
» Suggested topics and activities for parent group meetings.
